Before getting to this weeks desktop, there's a couple of things I wanted to remind you about. First, this update is a week late and I am not going to try to shift them back on time but rather just let them play out as they are (the one slated for the 13th will be up on the 20th, the one for the 20th appears on the 27th). Second, the previous weeks wallpaper is always still available by clicking the preview to the left found on this page. Enjoy! Above is this weeks free desktop. Back this week to a place which has been featured here a few times before, Yellowstone National Park. Located in northwestern Wyoming, a portion of southwestern Montana, and a small sliver of Idaho, this park offers an amazing glimpse of the planet's most diverse and intact collection of geysers, hot springs, mudpots, and fumaroles. Even though the geothermal features are the most associated features with Yellowstone (who wouldn't with Old Faithful being here), but there is much more in this park. Vast meadows and forrests with an amazing amount of wildlife, a raging river with waterfalls and Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, plus North American's largest mountain lake, Yellowstone Lake (at 20 miles long, 14 miles wide and 320 feet at its deepest). Honestly, it takes a couple of days to just drive and see the entire park, ot spending much time exploring all that's here. This weeks photo was taken in August 2006 at one of the viewpoints for Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, this one at Lower Falls on the Yellowstone River. The mist in the foreground is from the 308ft Lower Falls and as you can tell from the shot, depending on the light, gives one the opportunity for a nice prismatic effect. The canyon itself is quite impressive, exposing the colorful layers of the area. There's a ton of trails to walk at Yellowstone, each offering different experiences. As stated above, to see all this wonderful park has to offer, plan a couple of days here. I believe this park to be well worth the time and you will leave with experiences you'll carry for years. Check the links section for more info on Yellowstone National Park.
