Before getting to this weeks desktop, there's a couple of things I wanted to remind you about.  First, expect the next update to be on time.   Second, the previous weeks wallpaper is always still available by clicking the preview to the left found on this page.  Enjoy!

Above is this weeks free desktop. Back once again this time to a wonderful park not far from Moab, UT, Canyonlands National Park. Two rivers, the Colorado River and Green River, along with help of gravity, formed the wonderful landscape found within this park. These same two rivers today actually physically divide Canyonlands into three sections - the Maze, the Needles and the Island in the Sky. Each of these sections offers a different experience and all are well worth visiting. The Maze is a virtually undeveloped area which offers a true (and very real) wildness opportunity, the Needles takes you down into canyons for a close-up exploration of the formations, while the Island in the Sky section lives up to its name as you find yourself elevated around 2000 ft above the rivers along with the other two sections of the park. The amazing perspective this section provides numerous overlooks that rewards visitors with magnificent views, plus there are also plenty of trails to hike here, both staying up on the rim and venturing down into numerous canyons. This weeks picture was taken in June 2007 at the Grand View Point Overlook. This is looking southest off the overlook across Monument Basin and the White Rim. Now, in an effort to give you some perspective here, the lip of the White Rim on the tip of the first finger canyon and that 4x4 road (the thin light ribbon) is a little over a 1 mile away. Go up and a little left to see a rather deep cut canyon (it's kind of hard to make out), this is the Colorado River, around 3 miles away. Continue up, staying near the center, one can just make out the Needles Overlook around 9 miles away on the far rim (the park boundary ends about halfway between here and there). If you wanted to compare the views from Grand View Point and the Needles Overlook, be prepared for a bit of a drive as it would take close to three hours and 90 miles of driving to get to Needles. (; With an absolutely massive trail system, numberous 4x4 only roads, and two wild rivers, Canyonlands National Park can offer a very real wilderness experience for those wanting it, or if you're just looking for some great sightseeing opportunities, that's available too. No matter what degree of difficulty you choose, you're sure to find a truly rewarding and entertaining visit here. Check the links section for more info on Canyonlands National Park.
