Before getting to this weeks desktop, there's a couple of things I wanted to remind you about.  First, expect the next update on the 3rd, right on time.  I think I've got a handle on my other sites and can stay on track with the updates here.  (:   Second, the previous weeks wallpaper is always still available by clicking the preview to the left found on this page.  Enjoy!

Above is this weeks free desktop.  Back to an amazing park featured many times, welcome once again to Zion National Park in southwest Utah. Zion NP was established in 1909 and features amazing scenery including some breathtaking sandstone cliffs considered among the highest in the world. The park itself is basically divided into three sections, not just by the variations in what you will see in each, but also by the need to access the park from three different routes. The upper section is Kolob Canyon, a beautiful area which is very lightly developed and offers some very intriguing day hike and backcountry possibilities. The central section is the Upper and Lower Kolob Plateau which is the least developed of the three and very easy to overlook as it requires a bit of searching just to find access to it (this section offers some great views and contains trailheads to backcountry exploration). Lastly, Zion Canyon is the main, highly developed section and it is where the majority of visitors go when experiencing this park. Because of the volume of visitors, main portion of Zion Canyon is accessed only through a shuttle service (which I've come to enjoy, as the task of driving the narrow, winding canyon road wouldn't be very much fun (; ). Now, this weeks picture is from Zion Canyon, on the Riverside Walk which is a paved 2 mile (round trip) trail located at the northern end of the canyon where it starts to narrow. This trail ends where the section apty called The Narrows begins, one can proceed, you just have to walk in the river. Taken in May 2007, you are looking south, back down the canyon, with the rather low Virgin River babbling on the foreground. Zion is a wonderful park, great for both those just seeking a sightseeing experience and for those wanting to much, much more. One day here can be rewarding, but there is enough here to warrant planning a multi-day visit to Zion.
