Before getting to this weeks desktop, there's a couple of things I wanted to remind you about.  First, expect the next update on the 12th right on time.  I had four other sites get hit by a virus and while fixing them I got side-tracked making some changes i had for them and well ....  Hopefully my hosting company (which is where I think the virus came from) has everything secure and I can stay on track on the updates here.  (:   Second, the previous weeks wallpaper is always still available by clicking the preview to the left found on this page.  Enjoy!

Above is this weeks free desktop.  Back once again to a place which has been featured many times, Arches National Park.  Located just a few miles outside Moab, UT, Arches NP showcases the amazing sculptured rock found here, with the main formations being, as you might guess from its name, arches.  Now if you were wondering how an arch is formed, it sounds reasonably simple.  Let erosive actions (these mainly being frost, wind and seeping moisture) act on the free standing sandstone fins found here, wait a few millions years while working on the right kind of rock, and poof, you get this amazing wonders.  See, real simple. (; For a more detailed and much better explanation, this info can be found at the Arches NPS site which is the featured link in the Links section.  This weeks photo features an amazing formation from the remote Klondike Bluffs area, Tower Arch.  This June 2007 shot was taken at the end of a 1.75 mile trail (one-way) that cuts across some really interesting landscape.  The Klondike Bluffs area is a really a wonderful, out of the way place once you get there, it's just the 9 mile drive (18 miles round trip) on the roughest road I have ever experienced that presents a problem here.  Some of my enthusiasm for Tower Arch was definitely lost bouncing on the washboard they have labeled an unpaved road, but in all fairness even though it took me close to a hour, each way, there were vehicles traveling much faster and I assumed they were blessed with better suspension than my aging '97 Explorer (or maybe they were driving a rental , I could have made in 20 minutes in one of those (: ).  With the many varying trails in Arches, some taking you to views of beautiful arches, while others give you the wonderful experience of walking through (and on) the fins and other rocks formations, this park offers one an amazing hiking opportunity!  This is really a beautiful park and Arches allows you the possibility to experience it as it needs to be seen, close up.  Just remember, you will not be able to see all the wonders here in a single day, but it's still fun trying to do as much as you can with whatever time you have.
