Before getting to this weeks desktop, there's a couple of things I wanted to remind you about.  First, the updates are shifted a few days the next couple of weeks and will be back on track soon.  Second, the previous weeks wallpaper is always still available by clicking the preview to the left found on this page. Enjoy!

Above is this weeks free desktop.  Back once again to a place which has been featured here many times, Arches National Park.  Located just a couple of miles outside Moab, UT, Arches NP showcases the amazing sculptured rock found here, with the main formations being, well, arches.  If you were wondering, an arch is formed by erosive actions (these mainly being frost, wind and seeping moisture) on the free standing sandstone fins found here.  The process sounds reasonably simple, just give erosion millions of years and the right kind of rock, and poof, you get this amazing wonders (right ... real simple (; ).  For a more detailed and much better explanation, this info can be found at the Arches NPS site which is the featured link in the Links section.  Unlike most of the offerings from Arches, this weeks photo does not feature a formation from the popular Devils Garden section or even an arch, but rather was taken on the 3.5 mile trail to Tower Arch located in the remote Klondike Bluffs area.  This June 2007 shot is of an interesting formation called Marching Men and at least to me, seems very fitting.  With the many varying trails in Arches, some taking you to views of beautiful arches, while others give you the wonderful experience of walking through (and on) the fins and other rocks formations, this park offers one an amazing hiking opportunity!  This is really a beautiful park and Arches allows you the possibility to experience it as it needs to be seen, close up.  One would be hard pressed to see all the wonders here in a single day, but it's fun trying to do as much as you can. (:
