Above is this weeks free desktop. Back again to a place featured here before, Surfer's Knoll just outside Ventura. I offered a sunset from here which was taken on the 2000 trip to California some time ago, and five years later I got back to this wonderful beach, so once again a sunset photo at Surfer's Knoll can be the wallpaper of the week. Surfers Knoll is this great section of beach sandwiched between McGrath State Park (to the south) and Channel Islands National Park (to the north). I will admit that the last time I talked about this place, I thought it was part of Channel Islands, my mistake. What is not in error is the description of the beach itself. This is a perfect section of beach to me, easily accessible, virtually undeveloped, and about as close to private beach as one could hope for. This seemly little used beach is a real jewel just to relax on. Watch the waves, soak up the sun, view a couple the islands in Channel Islands, walk the beach, picnic on the beach, and my favorite, watch the sunset. California sunsets are said to be some of the most spectacular you'll experience, well, this one from June 2005 sure seemed special to me.
