Above is this weeks free desktop. Back once again to one of Americas finest parks, Yosemite National Park. This park was formed in 1890 to preserve a spectacular portion of the Sierra Nevada that contains staggering waterfalls, lush alpine meadows, giant 1000+ year old sequoias, and some very intriguing formations of rock. This park has inspired poets, painters, visitors and photographers, including my favorite, Ansel Adams. One of the most popular sections of this park is a glacier-carved canyon called appropriately Yosemite Valley, which contains some of the most famous formations in the world (El Capitan and Half Dome) along with several waterfalls. This weeks shot comes from an excellent view point of the valley, at the base of Sentinel Dome from the southern side of the canyon were my wife and I ate lunch. Looking north, the main feature here is the fifth tallest waterfall in the world, Yosemite Falls which actually comprised of three separate falls, Upper Yosemite Fall (1420 ft), the center cascades (675 ft), and Lower Yosemite Fall (320 ft). It is difficult to believe, there are times when this wondrous falls actually disappears as in the late summer dry season its flow can cease to be, but in late May 2004 when this was shot, the spring melt was still suppling it nicely. Without any doubt, Yosemite is a fantastic experience, one which has enough possibilities to easily fill any time you have to give it, be it days or weeks. I must say, as I have the other times Yosemite was featured, I'd never consider to have the expertise to be able to convey the true beauty of this park, such is simply beyond my ability. I do hope that after viewing the glimpses offered here, you come away with a desire to experience this wonder in person, which is really the only way to appreciate it. Be sure to check the links section for more info on the Yosemite National Park, and be sure to plan a visit to this treasure.
