Above is this weeks free desktop. This week we travel back to a park not far from Moab, UT, Canyonlands National Park. The Colorado River and Green River, important forces which helped form this park, actually divide Canyonlands into three sections - the Island in the Sky, the Needles and the Maze. It is from the first of these, Island in the Sky, that this is featured this week. The Island in the Sky section lives up to its name as you find yourself elevated around 2000 ft above the Colorado and Green Rivers along with the other sections of the park. The amazing perspective of the area provided by numerous overlooks are magnificent and there're plenty of trails to hike, both staying up on the rim and venturing down. This picture was taken in May 2003 from the trail, returning from Mesa Arch. Mesa Arch is one of the premiere features of this section as it's located right on the rim, and offers an excellent sightseers experience! With a massive trail system, 4x4 only roads, and untamed rivers, Canyonlands National Park can offer a very real wilderness experience for those who want it, or if you're looking for something much more tame, that's available too (plus anything in between). No matter what level you choose, you will find a truly rewarding visit here.
