Above is this weeks free desktop.  Back to Colorado, and my search for fall colors last September.  The Sangre de Cristo Mountains in southern Colorado offer the foliage you would expect of a high alpine area, including the one that people seek in the fall for its color, aspens.  I had traveled through this area many times before as it's how I go to Great Sand Dunes National and I knew there was the possible opportunity for a nice fall experience here.  This is a couple of miles from North La Veta Pass and I am standing on the shoulder of US 160, the main highway, looking east.  There's a couple of nice groves of aspen trees featured here and many more in this area.  As was mentioned with the October photo, you can also tell we were there a bit early for perfect fall color as there was still a fair amount of green aspens mixed in (a week later would have been just right (; ).
