Before getting to this weeks desktop, there's a couple of things I wanted to remind you about.
First, expect the next update on time the 29th and hopefully I can stay on
track for a while at least. (: Second, the previous weeks wallpaper is always still available by clicking the preview to the left found on this page. Enjoy!
Above is this weeks free desktop. Back to a park you've seen
featured here several times before, Bryce Canyon National Park. Located
in southern Utah, the main feature of this wonderful park is erosion
shaped pillars of colorful limestones, sandstones, and mudstones called
hoodoos. These interesting formations are easily viewed from the many
overlooks on the main park road, on the entertaining and rather easy Rim
Trail, and for those a bit more adventurous, many trails journey into
Bryce for true "up close and personal" experience. The picture featured
this week was taken June 2007 on one of the latter explorations (into
Bryce (: ), on the trail to see Tower Bridge. What you're looking at
here is a section of Fairyland the trail wonders through. The 3 miles
round trip hike, with a 950 ft drop in elevation, is a nice 3 hour
experience and one is rewarded the entire time. Bryce offers some 50
miles of excellent hiking trails which take you into the heart of the
park. The rewards of viewing the hoodoos close up make the effort
required tackling the terrain well worth it. Without any doubt, this
park offers excellent hiking opportunities. But a word of warning before
you head out, the elevation here is 7000 to 9000ft with some trails
ending with you coming back up out of a canyon, not the easiest thing if
you're one not use to the elevation (I speak from personal experience
here (; ). Caution should be exercised here, just be prepared. Bryce
Canyon is a park which can offer extended opportunities for many days of
exploring, or if you wish, one can still have rewarding experience in
just a single, wonderful day.
