Above is this weeks free desktop. Back this week to a place featured here a couple of times before, Surfer's Knoll just outside Ventura. Surfer's Knoll is this great section of beach sandwiched between McGrath State Park (to the south) and Channel Islands National Park (to the north). This is a perfect section of beach to me, easily accessible, virtually undeveloped, and from what I can tell from my visits here, not prone to being crowded (in the 8 plus hours over three visits here, I've had to share it with under twenty people). This seemly little used beach is a real jewel just to relax on while you watch the waves and sailboats, soak up the California sun, catch a glimpse of a couple of the islands in Channel Islands, take a stoll on the beach, enjoy a picnic on the beach, and my favorite, watch the sunset. This weeks wallpaper is of a sunset at Surfer's Knoll taken in June 2005. A similar photo of this sunset was featured back in August, but it was taken about ten minutes earlier. It's said California sunsets are some of the most spectacular you'll experience, well, this was one which I'll remember. If you're seeking a beach to just get away, this one might be exactly what you want.
