Above is this weeks free desktop. Back this time to one of finest parks in America, Yosemite National Park. The park was formed in 1890 to preserve this spectacular portion of the Sierra Nevada which contains staggering waterfalls, lush alpine meadows, giant 1000+ year old sequoias, and some very intriguing, world famous formations of rock. Yosemite has inspired poets, painters, visitors and photographers, including my favorite, Ansel Adams, and I must admit, me. Now, one of the most popular sections of this park is Yosemite Valley, a glacier-carved canyon which contains a couple of very famous formations (El Capitan and Half Dome) along with several beautiful waterfalls. This weeks shot comes from hiking the trail between Glacier Point (which offers an excellent view of the valley) and Sentinel Dome. The trail, along with the afore mentioned features, sits on the southern side of the valley and at over 3000ft above it, one can catch breathtaking views of the area and of many of the well known sights. What you see in this weeks shot is the view from about the center of the valley looking west, a shot rarely seen simply because most of the feature photograph better shooting from the other direction. An example of this that light colored rock on the right side of the picture, it's El Capitan. I know, it doesn't look like El Capitan, but it is. The face you normally see photos of is viewed best south, southwest or west of it, and I'm almost straight east. The view of El Capitan from Taft Point is much better as you're southeast of it, but I prefer to offer you a more unique perspective. (; Without any doubt, Yosemite is a fantastic experience, one which could easily consume weeks to sampling all the possibilities. I do want say that I'd never consider to have the expertise to be able to convey the true beauty of this park, the most I seek with my photos is to give a brief glimpse of the wonders one can see and hope you find a desire to expand upon this in person. Really, this one is worth it!
