Above is this weeks free desktop. Back once again to one of Americas finest parks, Yosemite National Park. This park was formed in 1890 to preserve a spectacular portion of the Sierra Nevada which manages to contain staggering waterfalls, lush alpine meadows, giant 1000+ year old sequoias, and some very intriguing formations of rock. This park has inspired poets, painters, visitors and photographers, including my favorite, Ansel Adams. One of the most popular sections of this park is Yosemite Valley, a glacier-carved canyon which contains some of the most famous formations in the world (El Capitan and Half Dome) along with several waterfalls. This weeks shot comes from one of the excellent view points of the valley, Glacier Point. Situated on the southern side of the valley and over 3000ft above it, this affords you a breathtaking view of the area and of many of the well known sights. This weeks shot is from an overlook a few hundred feet from main viewing area on Glacier Point and we're looking NE. There are a few points of interest here, so lets start at the lower right of photo. The lower waterfall is the 317 ft Vernal Fall, with the one above it being Nevada Fall at 597 ft. Just to the right of it, the shaded, rounded rock formation is Liberty Cap at 7076 ft (Glacier Point is around 7200 ft). Now if you go straight up and just a bit left, you will find a pointed, snow covered peak, this is Mount Florence standing tall at 12,561 ft. Found on the left side of the photo is a formation which really shouldn't need to be introduced , but I will, standing a proud 8,842 ft is Half Dome. Without any doubt, Yosemite is a fantastic experience, one which could easily consume weeks to enjoy all the possibilities. I must say as I did last time Yosemite was featured, I'd never consider to have the expertise to be able to convey the true beauty of this park, such is simply beyond my ability. The most I seek with my work is to give a brief glimpse of the wonders one can see and hope you find a desire to expand upon this in person.
